Description
The crow sized Pileated Woodpecker displaying the cautious checking that is its basic personality. Its jungle-like call is usually the only way you know it is around. The cartoon character Woody Woodpecker was fashioned after the Pileated's call, red head and constant movements. The only time I saw a Pileated stay still for any duration of time was when a Red Tail Hawk showed up. The Pileated made one strategic move and froze until the hawk left.
