Description
A photo of an old John Deere tractor taken by Nava Thompson on a farm in Stillwell, Oklahoma. This old shed and land have been in the family for many years. The old wood and tractor could tell some interesting stories. The tractor is a 1963 and is still used today. Take time to visit the old shed and tell me what you see and hear. Deere & Company, most commonly known by its name John Deere (NYSE: DE), is an American corporation based in Moline, Illinois, and the leading manufacturer of agricultural machinery in the world. In 2012, it was listed as 97th in the Fortune 500 America's ranking and 190th in the Fortune 500 Global ranking. Deere and Company agricultural products, sold under the John Deere name, include tractors, combine harvesters, cotton harvesters, balers, planters/seeders, sprayers, and UTVs. The company is also a leading manufacturer of construction equipment and forestry equipment, as well as a supplier of diesel engines and drivetrains (axles, transmissions, gearboxes) used in heavy equipment. Additionally, John Deere manufactures equipment used in lawn, grounds, and turf care, such as walk-behind lawn mowers, zero-turn lawn mowers, lawn tractors, and snowthrowers. To support the core businesses, John Deere also provides financial services and other related activities. The company's slogan is "Nothing Runs Like a Deere" and has a picture of a leaping deer as a logo,[2] a word play pun on "nothing runs like a deer". Carl Westby is known as the person who coined the phrase "Nothing Runs Like a Deere" for a marketing campaign to sell snowmobiles. The company's products are also easily identifiable by its distinct shade of green paint, usually augmented by yellow trim.

Nava, Your recent barn picture brought me back to visit this longtime Favorite. Today, I am focussing on the long shadows, created by the sunlight of another day dawning. This thought makes me wonder just how many days this old tractor has seen criss-crossing the farm fields under a hot sun? Seeing it now, partially shrouded, and with a wheelbarrow leaning against it, I'm thinking it has earned a long rest, and will one day shine again, as a restored collector's pride and joy. But, if this tractor could speak, it would probably prefer its earlier years as a workhorse for its owners. Took another L/V

Doug---thank you for the appreciating and treasuring what some might choose to hide or throw away. You said in an earlier comment---the tractor appears to be looking outward as if to have pride in what it had accomplished. The name 'Personality' might suit him pretty well after all. This guy is still a working tractor! :) Thanks--I need to read these comments to the owners.

Doug---I am speechless---I need to copy this and give to the owners---they are friends of ours and you would love them. They live in the farm house where she grew up---I love to visit when possible. All of your description takes me right back to what I remember as a child. This is like a 'mini' vacation---back to where I belong. Thank you!

Nava Jo, When I peer into this shed, I see an old workhorse that has served it's owners well for decades. I also see assorted other tools used to extract new life from fertile ground. I can smell the soil and aged barn wood, that blindfolded could paint a picture of this well loved property. I hear birds chirping in the trees on this early summer morn. It looks as though this tractor might be looking outward and feeling pride in all it has accomplished. L/V&F

Nava Jo, I always enjoy viewing your birds, flowers and animal photos. But this one speaks to me on a whole norther level! The tractor, the shed and all of the gardening tools tell a story of life and love for this land. The aging tractor and the weathered look of the shed tell of the many years of toil with the soil. As I look around, I begin to see the lined and tanned faces of the many people who have troded this haloed ground. Thanks for sharing this story with us. F&V

Thank you Doug for enjoying the old shed--and tractor---and slowing life down enough to observe and go back in time. It is still a working shed and tractor today--and yet the stories could go way back. Thank you for your visit and f/v!
