(1st win in 'Spring in Winter')(2nd place contest win in 'SPRINGTIME') This is a photo taken by Nava Thompson of a Redpoll sitting in the Crab-Apple Tree blossoms with a spring rain coming down....Arkansas......The Redpolls are a group of small passerine birds in the finch family Fringillidae which have characteristic red markings on their heads. They were formerly placed into the genus Acanthis together with the linnets and the twite, but their closest relatives are actually the crossbills, that are placed in the genus Loxia.......The latter genus could be merged with Carduelis in a single genus, for which the name Loxia would then have priority. My story-- There's so much color, variety and fun in exploring nature and wildlife. The 'magic' of those moments have been captured and presented here for you to share and enjoy. I am more aware of God's paintbrush as I work with close up shots of birds in action and butterflies on flowers in the morning sun. Deer and Elk are outstandingly photogenic! They appear to have been outlined with a magic marker. Amazing -- isn't it? My dream is to continue to explore---chasing the rainbows and sunsets while searching for something new and exciting. Enjoy my gallery, Thank you!
