Big Cedar Resort
Big Cedar Resort near Branson, Misosuri, combines
a historic setting with modern amenities. Historic Resort in the Ozarks
Located ten miles south of Branson in
Ridgedale, Missouri, the historic Big Cedar
Resort is nestled by Table Rock Lake in a
beautiful Ozark Mountains valley. While there are many outstanding resorts in
the Branson area, few possess a history as
rich as that of Big Cedar. Originally a stretch
of pristine Ozark terrain, the site was first
developed as a private resort during the
years before the Great Depression.
Long before the development of the resort,
the Long Creek arm of the White River was
known as Big Cedar Hollow. The deep and
mysterious Devil's Pool there was a favorite
attraction for local residents. Before the
completion of Table Rock Lake, the pool was
fed by a deep spring that gained its name
because Native Americans considered it a
"bottomless pit."
A combination of the arrival of the railroad in
Branson during the early 1900s and the
remarkable success of the novel Shepherd
of the Hills brought thousands of people to
the previously isolated Missouri Ozarks.
Among them were Harry Worman, an
executive with the Frisco Railroad, and Jude
Simmons, a well-known entrepreneur of the
day.

Hurrah for having your artwork chosen to be a featured piece on our homepage this week. You have many fine pieces in your portfolio of your works, and I am happy you chose this one to submit for possible featuring in our group on the homepage. It now has reached that goal of being featured in our group, a family of friends and fine artists of the Wisconsin Flowers and Scenery Group. Congratulations on this fine accomplishment

What a tranquil scene Nava Jo! —Love the single fallen leaf perched on the edge of this small cascade. I can almost hear the sounds of the water making its way over this spillway. The lush green plant life tells me it's been a fruitful summer, while the small bubbles on the water's surface betrays the presence feeding fish. This composition fills me with warm pleasant thoughts of summers past, and those yet to come. Simply peaceful! L/V&F

Doug---thank you for your very kind and warm thoughts about this little waterfall. Actually--this one you drive through--and to the right you see this--to the left is the new Chapel at Big Cedar--and beyond is Table Rock Lake. It is a wonderful place to visit. Thank you for the surprise visit!
